The Founders' Journey
Dr. Jonas Scherer and Dr. Klaus Kades — from developing Kaapana at DKFZ to founding Hycean.
DKFZ & Kaapana
Klaus and Jonas met at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, where they led the development of Kaapana — an open-source platform for federated medical imaging.
PhD in Medical Informatics
Both completed their PhDs in medical image processing and coordinated multi-institutional projects with over 38 institutions and 400 researchers.
Founding Hycean
In 2023, they leveraged their experience from research and industry to found Hycean – building scalable, AI-driven platforms that transform complex data into competitive advantages.
